Premortem Vs Remembering the future in Agile

In Agile, premortem and remembering the future are two foresight exercises with distinct approaches:

Premortem imagines the project has failed and works backward to identify what could cause this failure, aiming to proactively address potential risks before they occur.

Remembering the future assumes the project has been successful and looks back to identify what actions and decisions led to this success, focusing on replicating those success factors throughout the project lifecycle.

Simply put, premortem is about avoiding pitfalls by foreseeing failure while remembering the future is about ensuring success by envisioning and emulating the key drivers of success.
